In a significant update for medical aspirants across India, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially extended the registration deadline for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduates (NEET UG) 2024. This development comes as a relief to many candidates who were racing against time to submit their applications by the initially set deadline of March 9. With this extension, applicants now have until March 16 to complete and submit their forms for the highly competitive MBBS entrance exam. The announcement was made earlier today, signaling NTA’s commitment to accommodating the needs of all potential test-takers.

Candidates interested in applying for NEET UG 2024 are encouraged to visit the official website, neet.ntaonline.in, to access the application form and other pertinent information related to the examination process. This extension is expected to benefit a large number of students who are aiming to secure a seat in medical colleges across the country.

The registration fee structure for NEET UG 2024 has been clearly outlined, catering to candidates from various categories. For Indian candidates falling under the General Category, the registration fee is set at Rs 1,700. To support students from reserved categories, the NTA has provided fee relaxations: General-EWS and OBC-NCL candidates are required to pay Rs 1,600, whereas SC, ST, PwBD, and third gender candidates can avail of the reduced fee of Rs 1,000.

A noteworthy update in the examination rules pertains to the tie-breaking criteria used to decide rankings among candidates with equal scores. In a departure from previous practices that considered the candidates’ age and NEET UG application number, the new criteria prioritize academic performance. The order of priority for breaking ties is now based first on scores obtained in biology, followed by chemistry, and then physics. Additionally, if the need arises, the ratio of correct to incorrect answers will be taken into account, both across disciplines and within specific subjects.

This revision in the tie-breaking rules reflects NTA’s efforts to ensure a fair and merit-based selection process for aspiring medical students. By focusing on academic performance in the core subjects of biology, chemistry, and physics, the NTA aims to prioritize subject mastery in determining the eligibility of candidates for medical education.

As the deadline approaches, students are urged to complete their registration process well in advance to avoid any last-minute technical glitches. The extension of the registration deadline for NEET UG 2024 is a welcome move by the NTA, offering hopeful medical aspirants additional time to prepare and apply for one of the most crucial examinations of their academic careers.
